Tonight Melissa and I went to go see Marc Ribot's new band Ceramic Dog. Before we saw them I couldn't predict what a "free/punk/funk/experimental/psychedelic/post electronica collective" would sound like. Now, after hearing it, that description makes complete sense. Ribot kicked ass and took names on the guitar (and bass at one point!) and it was a real treat for me to see him play live. There were a couple parts where they locked into some sick psychedelic jams for upwards of 3-5 minutes at a time.. which really seemed to annoy some audience members near us. Maybe they were just waiting for the next band and couldn't be bothered with the song(s) that went on for a long time. Oh well. We were standing around outside before the show started and Marc and the bass player were standing in line to add people to the guest list. Someone asked him about recording an album, and he said that his usual label would sign him but they were waiting for the "million dollar contract." Haha, hopefully they will release one by next year because it would be nice to listen to a recording.
